Film Festival Season 2018
Film Festival Season is an annual film industry event that occurs from September – November when this country’s three major film festivals take place - trinidad+tobago film festival (ttff), Animae Caribe Animation and Digital Media Festival and Green Screen Environmental Film Festival. This year, the season runs from 4th September to 30th November. FilmTT is a proud sponsor of the three film festivals taking place during Film Festival Season, as well as capacity building events within each festival: ttff's 2-day Business Seminar, Green Screen's The Art of the Interview Workshop and Animae Caribe's Digital Media School Day.
This festival is this premiere regional festival for T&T, Caribbean and diaspora film and industry events. Founded in 2006, the ttff has screened and awarded many notable T&T films, developed audience tastes for content, been a platform to connect Caribbean filmmakers to each other and to international industry professionals, and hosted industry development labs, workshops and presentations.
This festival is focused on increasing environmental awareness and behaviour change through film screenings and discussions. Green Screen is now in its 8th year and recently held its Very Short Shorts Mobile Film Competition, with selected films being screened during this year’s festival. FilmTT will be sponsoring the winning prize in the 18 years and over category.
The theme of this year's festival is "Perspective". Perspective is a call to pause and look critically at our landscape, locally, regionally and internationally, with dual lenses of climate change action and adaptation. Green Screen is inviting the participation of diverse interests while bringing people together to discuss the issues that affect us from different angles and to work toward solutions for a more sustainable future.
An animation and digital arts event focused on teaching through workshops, demonstrations, and connecting T&T animators to international industry; it has been a primary platform for the growth of the animation sector during its 17-year history. Animae Caribe has been connecting international animation professionals to youths and budding animators through workshops and presentations and continue to build bridges in the sector across the region.
OPENING NIGHT FILM + RECEPTION
OCTOBER 31, 2018 | 6:00PM | DIGICEL IMAX
The feature film at the opening will be the T&T premiere of the fascinating documentary Anote’s Ark. Compelling and visually sumptuous, the film is set in Kiribati, a small Pacific Island country with a miniscule carbon footprint. Nevertheless, Kiribati is facing the most feared and modern existential threat to small islands – complete destruction from sea level rise.
This workshop, geared toward early career documentary filmmakers and journalists, will prepare participants to develop stories for documentary-making, supported by strong on-camera interviews that cut to the heart of the story.
